The Social Media Bandwagon
Now I use Social Media Marketing for a huge part of my marketing and I even teach others how to use it as well. But, one thing that I am seeing more and more is companies dropping everything else that they do to market their businesses to JUST do Social Media stuff. Everyone is teaching classes and there is buzz everywhere about how you HAVE to be using Social media.
Now, I do agree that you do need to use Social Media Marketing in your business. Social Media Marketing is a large piece of our overall marketing, but… notice the critical word in this sentence “piece”.
Though it is a large piece of our overall marketing plan, it is just one piece of our marketing puzzle.
You still need to keep doing as many other things as you can to get your message out there and attract new customers.
Things like:
These are just a very small list of some of the other things you can do as well as Social Media Marketing. There are 100s of other things you can do to market your business that will work WITH your Social Media marketing, not instead of it.
Remember, marketing isn’t a matter of finding that one magic bullet. It’s a Mix of things that all work together to effectively find new prospects and turn those prospects in to customers.
So, what are you doing to market yourself today?

Ely – I couldn’t agree more. I run into two extremes – those who want to drop everything and think social media is the next marketing savior and those who are pushing back so hard they are missing the opportunities that a company can gain with social media. I will say, social media has most definitely become a foundational item, just like a website – it brings a credibility factor to other marketing. However, like you said, it’s the layering of a couple of really great tactics, doing them with clarity, consistency and constancy that will churn the results.

Gail,
Thanks for the comment. Sorry it took so long to get back to you on it. I missed it in the bunch.
You are right. With Social Media I also see the extreme of both sides. People resisting it or people rushing like a pack of rabid wolves.

Great points Ely! People often focus so much on learning everything there is to know about social media (which, is impossible!) they forget about tending to traditional marketing! There are so many components to marketing any business, that it is important to understand how to integrate all the pieces!
And….like you always teach…you have to start with a PLAN first!
