A Picture is Worth $2.50…?

Until about 5 minutes ago I wasn’t sure what I was going to write about today and then it hit me…the power of pictures.

See I just got back from a run thru a local drive thru to pick up dinner. When I left the house I had a list of items I was to order. Mine, my daughter’s, Ely’s and one extra (for the dogs :) ).

But then I got there. I looked at the menu and verified the items I needed to order and began placing my order with the nice girl over the speaker.

Sounds good so far right?

Well this is where the picture came in. There it was big and tasty looking on the end of the menu board. It took up almost one whole section of the menu and had a catchy name. But the name didn’t do it, it was that picture. Of course the final product won’t look like that…we all know it. But it didn’t matter.

The picture looked wonderful. So…you guessed it…I bought it. The special milkshake. And I have to admit, it is delicious. :)

But the key here was that they didn’t “sell” me a milkshake. They simply presented my with the option. They provided me with a bribe that made me WANT the offer. And this was done with a tasty looking picture of what I was going to get for my hard earned $2.50.

I see people post things for sale everyday. They have websites for their items, they post on eBay, they post on a barter network we participate in and 80% of the time they rely in words to sell their product.

When you are trying to sell a product or a service to someone always remember the old saying “A Picture is Worth 1000 Words”.

Now you might be thinking “But it was only $2.50?” And you are right I only spent $2.50, but how many other people around the country (it is a national chain after all) have spent that same $2.50 today, or yesterday or maybe tomorrow?

So go look at your products or services. Are you showing pictures of what exactly the customer will receive? Are they good solid pictures (maybe even professional) that truly showcase the product and what it will do for me?

If not maybe it is time to rethink that plan. After all today $2.50, tomorrow….

I like pictures a lot. No surprise as I’m married to an illustrator. Ha! He’s the one who created my avatar.

I like a picture on every one of my blog posts as something to grab the eye. Sometimes you wonder what a certain picture has to do with a certain topic, but they fit together in MY mind. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the chuckle over this post. I can see that shake’s allure. I saw a photo of bacon waffles today–did nothing for me. No surprise as I’m a vegetarian. Ha!
