Marketing Tip: Give Them What They Want
Everyone knows that marketing your business is critical to the growth and even the survival of it. A great product will go the way of the graveyard pretty quick without the right marketing in place. So, here’s a simple marketing tip that is pretty much guaranteed to get the attention of your target market and get them in your store without much effort on your part.
Ready for it?…
Give them what they want.
Don’t play around. Don’t try to be cute in your marketing or advertising. Just be straight forward and give your prospects what they want and need.
Too many businesses and “creative guys” try to be cute with their advertising. They beat around the bush and some even go as far as being so vague in their advertisement that you might have a hard time figuring out what they are selling.
It doesn’t really make sense does it? Why wouldn’t you have your product or service in your ad? You do want to sell more, don’t you?
I can’t count the number of times I have seen cute and even clever advertisements and marketing materials that look professional, caught my eye and even kept my attention but not once even told me what they were selling.
With clever advertising like that, you might get people to remember the ad but it’s doubtful if they will remember your company or what you actually do.
Just last week I saw a promotion that was perfect in every way. It wasn’t fancy or creative but it stuck with me and got my attention right away.
If you’ve ever been to Phoenix Arizona in the summer, it’s REALLY hot. No question about it. Going outside you feel like you are going to melt.
I was driving down the road the other day and passed a Walgreen’s. No big deal. They are on almost every corner. But one thing stood out about this Walgreen’s that I will never forget. Their basic LED style sign said one simple message.
“We have ice”
Now being it was 115 outside do you think it caught my attention? You bet it did. I was going the opposite direction of home but if I had needed ice and was on my way home, I would have stopped. I even considered it just because it sounded nice and cool.
Do you think that I will remember that when I do need ice? Of course! They didn’t try to do anything fancy. All they did was offer a solution to a problem.
It’s hot. Wanna cool down? Get ice! We have it!
Their simple three word sign put a flag in my brain that will likely never go away. Any time I think about needing ice, I’ll think of them.
See how simple it can be. What does your target market need? Make sure you have it. And let them know you’re there for them.
Forget about all the silly commercials and “play on words” marketing that’s out there. Keep it simple and give them what they want.
