Facebook Events Gets a Facelift
I was wandering through my Facebook wall (News Feed) this afternoon (I know…shocking isn’t it…) and came across this post from Mashable:Facebook Redesigns Event Pages. So I decided to go and investigate.
Sure enough my events page has been re-designed. See here in Phoenix AZ we have a free live networking event that we put on every other week and we also have an Internet TV show that we broadcast every other week. Each of those events are posted on Facebook so that we can invite our friends to attend or watch.
But rather than create each post, each week, we go through and create a few at a time. This way we don’t forget and miss one. (Since this has never happened……ya, right…)
So because of this, even though we have regular events, I don’t always look at the page. If it wasn’t for Mashable I could have been days before I even noticed.
But I did look and so far I have to say it is pretty good. Some of the comments people are leaving on the Mashable post say that they hate it. I have to say I don’t agree. I think it is a nice clean new lay out. It is different and everything different takes some getting used to, but different isn’t necessarily bad.
So here is a run down of the changes:
- Moved the “Attending” to a list on the top left side.
- Put the “Maybe’s” and the “Haven’t responded’s” just under the “Yes’s” on the left side.
- Still show the “No’s” but it is hidden unless you click the “view all” link, and they are also moved over to the left side.
- The moved the RSVP buttons to the top of the page and made them more obvious.
- The information about the event is in a nice big area right in the middle of the page.
- And the graphic about the event is also moved over to the left side (it used to be on the right)
- I also found a nifty little “export” link at the bottom of the page. (It might have been there before, but I never noticed it so it must not have been very effective). This lets me click it and choose to send myself an email about the event.
- The date and time and location are in a nice, easy to read, easy to find format right in the top center of the page.
- And the “Select Guests To Invite” link is now a nice bold grey button right under the graphic. This is much more noticeable and might make people more readily share your event with their friends.
Some of the initial complaints that people posted included the ability to only invite 50 people at a time to an event, even if you were the creator. But it looks like that was a temporary limitation since I was able to invite 200+ people to an event just moments ago with no issue.
So far this change looks like just a change in look with no additional options or features being added as of yet.
I can keep hoping though….
The one and only thing I wish they would add is the ability to have events repeat. That’s it, just that one feature and I would be blissfully happy.
But, it is a free service after all, so I will take what I can get
Have you checked out the new look yet? What do you think of it? Does it matter to you one way or the other? Do you see it as a good change, a bad change or none of the above? Please share your thoughts below…
